Billboards all over the world are lit up with famous faces, products, destinations. But how often do you see the faces of real people? For 23 nights from Friday 26 May to Saturday 17 June, the Coca‑Cola billboard at Kings Cross will light up with the faces of people who live and work right here in Sydney, as part of Vivid Sydney, the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas.
For the first time we’re handing over our iconic billboard to celebrate Kings Cross making its debut as a precinct of Vivid Sydney. As part of the festival, the most prominent ad space in the area will showcase black-and-white portraits of the characters connected to the Kings Cross community.
“We wanted to give our billboard back to the community for Vivid Sydney to showcase the vibrancy and diversity of the Kings Cross precinct that we’ve been synonymous with since the 70s,” said Christine Black, director of public affairs and communications at Coca‑Cola South Pacific.
“Kings Cross is a special part of Sydney and given our long relationship with the area, and also The Wayside Chapel, we’re pleased to be able to help celebrate the incredible people of the Cross as part of our partnership with Vivid Sydney,” Christine said.
The electronic side of the billboard will play its part too. For the first time in its 43 year history the billboard, with its new LEDs, will feature a captivating light show with colours and special effects for Vivid Sydney.
