Coca‑Cola System Inaugurates a New Bottling Plant in Senegal

Dakar, Senegal, December 06, 2023 – In line with its commitment to Senegal, the Coca‑Cola bottler, Industrie des Boissons du Sénégal, (IBS), inaugurated its new bottling plant in Diamniadio. The state-of-the-art plant represents a US$50 million investment and is part of the process to reshape and consolidate the Coca‑Cola system’s presence in the country. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Prime Minister, Amadou Ba, Cabinet Ministers, and representatives from the Coca‑Cola system.

“This important milestone reflects Coca‑Cola’s approach in ensuring the right capabilities and investments are in place to sustainably grow the business and the positive impact within the communities.” said Mr. Rodrigue BILA, Vice President for West, Islands and Mid-Africa region of Coca‑Cola Africa.  “As a system in Senegal and thanks to the relationship with our bottler Industrie des Boissons du Sénégal, (IBS), we are committed to refreshing our consumers with the beverages they love and adapting to their evolving needs.”

The 58000 square-meter plant will produce Coca‑Cola, Sprite, Fanta, Schweppes and Minute Maid in both PET and Cans. An additional production line dedicated to returnable glass bottle (RGB) will be installed during 2024.  This investment will generate more than 3500 direct and indirect jobs.

Mr. Rouda El Sahili, Managing Director of IBS, said “Today's inauguration of this world-class plant is a significant milestone for our operations in Senegal. This achievement is as a result of years of dedicated effort and commitment to excellence and quality. We should all take immense pride in this accomplishment.”

The new plant implements Coca‑Cola’s stringent source water protection and conservation plans and efficiently manages water use by reusing treated wastewater, while replenishing water used, back to the community. Additionally, the new plant has 2580 solar panels with a total capacity of 1.5 megawatts. These efforts are part of the system’s commitment to meeting our science-based target to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and our vision to be net zero carbon, while working to accelerate business growth in a responsible and sustainable manner.
