SIKLO: Strengthening Implementation & Knowledge on Local Waste Management

The Strengthening Implementation and Knowledge on Local Waste Operations (SIKLO) Program, implemented in partnership with Coca‑Cola Philippines, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and Local Government Units (LGUs), helps strengthen solid waste management capacity across the Philippines by equipping professionals with industry-recognized skills and certification. Through competency-based training, participants learn key aspects of solid waste management, including waste assessment, collection systems, planning, implementation, and monitoring. By building a network of TESDA-certified solid waste management professionals, the program supports LGUs and communities in developing more effective, sustainable, and locally driven waste management systems.

Turning used bottles into new ones in the Philippines

PETValue Philippines is the country’s first food-grade bottle-to-bottle recycling facility, where used plastic bottles are transformed into new packaging. A joint venture between Coca‑Cola Europacific Aboitiz Philippines and Indorama Ventures, the facility uses advanced recycling technology to process PET bottles.

The facility helps keep materials in use and out of the environment. In 2024, PETValue reached a major milestone by recycling its 1 billionth bottle.

Coca‑Cola supports 6,000+ ways to recycle bottles across the Philippines

Your local sari-sari store, carinderia, barangay collection point, or even nearby community drop-off site could all be places where you could return used bottles.

Building stronger waste systems and partnerships across the Philippines

Across the Philippines, The Coca‑Cola Foundation works in partnership with NGOs, foundations, and local organizations to improve how waste is collected, managed, and recovered. These initiatives support schools, barangays, and local governments to build stronger recycling systems, improve waste management practices, and create livelihood opportunities linked to recycling and recovery. From community education and digital monitoring systems to women-led recovery hubs and cooperative models for waste workers, these programmes are helping scale practical, community-based solutions that reduce plastic in the environment and strengthen long-term environmental and social resilience.
