Coca‑Cola Pakistan wins big at the Coveted American Business Council (ABC) of Pakistan’s 2nd Annual Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Excellence Award
[Islamabad, 12th August 2024] Coca‑Cola has received the Nature Protection Award in the Environment category at the American Business Council ESG Awards ceremony. This marks the second consecutive year that Coca‑Cola has received this prestigious accolade in the SDG 12 category, in recognition of its commendable water replenishment initiatives particularly the Water for Women program.
Speaking at the occasion, Romina Khurshid Alam, Coordinator to the PM on Climate Change expressed her happiness to see enthusiasm of businesses for taking climate change mitigation seriously with many American businesses making environmentally and socially responsible investments in Pakistan.
The award was presented by Senator Sherry Rehman, Chair of the Climate and Environment Caucus of the Senate of Pakistan and former Minister for Climate Change to Coca‑Cola Pakistan who also delivered the closing address at the award ceremony.
The event saw attendance from over 120 CEOs, Silicon Valley venture capitalists, diplomats, and climate activists, including representatives from USAID and WWF. The Coca‑Cola Foundation in partnership with WWF-Pakistan is addressing water scarcity and quality issues for approx. 360,000 people in Lahore, Pakistan who rely on the Ravi River as a freshwater source. Coca‑Cola Pakistan also installed solar-powered water filtration plants for easy access to water for women in Sindh rural communities.
