
Lahore Waste Management Company and Coca‑Cola Pakistan Partner for the Maidaan Saaf Campaign to keep Gaddafi Stadium Clean During ICC Champions Trophy 2025
[Lahore, 11th February 2025]: Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) announced a partnership with Coca‑Cola Pakistan under a Memorandum of Understanding for the Maidaan Saaf Campaign which will ensure proper waste management at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Under the Maidaan Saaf initiative, Coca‑Cola Pakistan will provide support to LWMC to enhance their waste management operations at the stadiums. This will include deployment of special teams of cleaners to ensure that the venue is cleaned within 60 minutes after each match and installation of waste bins made of recycled plastic at the stadium with separate waste categories to segregate litter at the time of disposal. Additionally, Coca‑Cola will also run an awareness campaign to promote responsible waste disposal behaviors amongst fans.
Speaking at the MOU signing, Mr. Babar Sahib Din CEO, LWMC, said, "Lahore Waste Management Company is responsible for collecting waste from our beautiful city and keeping it clean. Lahore is proud to be hosting the matches of ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and we want to ensure that our city is ready to welcome cricket fans from around the world. We will make sure that our beautiful Gaddafi stadium remains clean and litter free. This partnership with Coca‑Cola will enable us to enhance our waste management capabilities and provide a clean environment and a refreshing sports experience for everyone during ICC Champions Trophy 2025."
Speaking at the event, Dr. Faisal Hashmi, Senior Director, Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability, The Coca‑Cola Company (Pakistan and Afghanistan Region) said, "At Coca‑Cola, we are committed to sustainability, and this collaboration reflects our dedication to creating a cleaner and refreshing environment for all. The collected waste will be passed on to recyclers for producing value-added products such as shirts, flags, and notebooks which will be distributed to schools in underprivileged areas.”
The MOU signing ceremony was attended by representatives from LWMC and Coca‑Cola Pakistan. Both organizations expressed their commitment to working together to make the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, a 19-Day competition, a successful and environmentally responsible world-class event and set an example for large-scale environment-friendly sports events.
The 15-match, eight-team ICC Champions Trophy 2025 returns to the cricket calendar for the first time since the last edition was staged in 2017, with defending champions Pakistan hosting their first global cricket tournament since 1996, alongside some matches to be played in UAE.
