Next generation of multipack without plastic film pilot launches

We are pleased to share that Coca‑Cola in France and in Germany is piloting one of the Next Generation of Multipack without plastic film - a limited trial of an innovative secondary packaging format designed to help eliminate shrink wrap.
Coca‑Cola and its strategic bottling partner Coca‑Cola Europacific Partners have announced that they will begin trialling one of the next generation of multipack solutions without plastic film - an innovative secondary packaging design that replaces plastic shrink wrap on large PET multipacks with glue dots and a recyclable cardboard handle.
It is being tested as part of Coca‑Cola’s efforts to reduce packaging waste and improve recyclability. The pilot, which is running in select stores in France and Germany, is designed to test feasibility, shopper acceptance and packaging performance.
The new concept is part of a broader portfolio of secondary packaging solutions in Europe including KeelClip™, LitePacTop, and CanCollar®.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Glue dots are strategically placed to hold the bottles together, while a strong, recyclable cardboard handle makes the pack easy to carry - offering the same functionality.
The pack has been engineered for stability and ease of carry. In extensive testing, the glue dots held securely during transport and shelf handling and Coca‑Cola will now monitor real-world shopper feedback closely as part of the pilot.
As glue dots are a relatively new experience for many consumers, the in-store marketing will provide clear and simple instructions for how to separate the bottles until this becomes intuitive over time.
HOW TO USE THE Multipack without plastic film?
Bottles can be gently twisted or pulled apart from the glue dots. The in-store communication and simple graphics on pack help guide the shopper experience. The handle is made of recyclable cardboard so once the bottles are removed, the handle can be placed in standard paper/cardboard recycling. The bottles can be recycled the same as any other PET bottle.
