Getting Started as a Content Creator
Want to become a content creator? Jenny offers tips on why authenticity, experimentation, and collaboration are essential.
- This lesson could be the start of something big;
your journey as a content creator.
If you have social media,
you're already a content creator whether you know it or not.
From the outside, it might look simple,
just grab your phone, hit record, right?
But trust me, you can get a lot more out of it
if you're willing to put some work in.
Content creators are some of the most prominent media members
earning brand deals, appearing on broadcasts,
and appearing alongside star athletes in real-life.
In this section, I'll share a few lessons I've picked up,
like what to think about when you're starting out?
How to grow as your voice, style, and confidence evolve?
Then, I'll walk you through how I create content that I feel is true to who I am.
First off, authenticity is key.
Being yourself is always a great idea,
and it's a huge differentiator in content creation.
Understand yourself and lean into your personal strengths.
What do you find yourself always talking about?
That's a great thing to focus on when you're starting out.
And adaptability is a superpower.
Being able to adapt to how to create content, whether it's a quick reaction video,
or a highly produced and edited TikTok,
mixing it up will give you more tools in your toolbox.
If you've built a voice and an audience,
opportunities to collaborate with other creators and brands will come.
Remember that brands hire creators because they're interested in what they do and the audience that they've built.
Fans don't want branded content that feels like an ad,
but they appreciate it when creators can put them onto a new brand or a product they might actually like.
So know your audience and choose partners who speak to them.
Now it's time to walk through how I do what I do.
We're gonna use the example of a behind-the-scenes post from today's shoot.
Step one, shoot a lot,
way more than you think you're going to need.
I always try to capture a few different angles
and a lot of different stuff.
And as you're gathering the footage, you can take note of the different stories you might tell
and select your favorite one while editing.
Then, I would add on-screen captions where needed,
either introducing the clip or calling out something specific.
The final touch is music.
You gotta pick something that fits the vibe or a trending audio you love.
Then, I share it with my audience.
Enjoy.
- I had no idea how to create content when I first started out,
but it's the perfect thing to learn by doing.
If you wanna get involved in the space,
start small and try out a few posts about something that you love.
Remember to be yourself and have fun with it,
and not to worry too much about whether your posts blow up at first,
just that you learn something new in the process of making them.
Let's quickly recap what we've learned.
Talk about what you know,
try everything,
collaborate authentically,
and, remember, just have fun with it.
