Club: Special Olympics Grampian
Sport: Table Tennis
Hometown: Aberdeen

For more than 20 years, Alex has proudly represented Special Olympics GB while building a successful career with Co-op.

Having first picked up a table tennis bat at the age of nine, Alex has spent more than two decades competing with Special Olympics GB, earning selection for the 2023 World Summer Games in Berlin, where he won two silver medals.

Alongside his sporting success, he's built a 25-year career with Co-op in Aberdeen – where he is a trusted and respected colleague who plays an active role in his local store and wider Aberdeen community.

His story shows how the confidence, determination and friendships built through sport can create opportunities far beyond competition, helping change perceptions both on and off the field of play.

Sharing how Special Olympics GB has shaped his journey, Alex Rae said: “Representing my country and winning two medals in Berlin was such a surreal moment. Since then, I have been finding my voice more and more. Coaching now gives me the opportunity to help other young people build confidence, believe in themselves and reach their potential, just as my coach George did for me.”

As part of Coca‑Cola's partnership with Special Olympics GB, we're celebrating athletes whose achievements inspire others and help change perceptions of intellectual disability.

Through our We Can campaign, we're shining a spotlight on athletes from local clubs to the national and world stage - recognising them as the role models they are and inspiring more people to see what's possible.

Together with Special Olympics GB, we're proud to help create a future where every athlete is seen, valued and celebrated.
